HOW DO I GROW A GREAT PERSONALITY?

HOW DO I GROW A GREAT PERSONALITY?

Take a look around you, and see how many “personality development” centers have sprung up! And all promising to produce a BRAND NEW YOU (of course, you have to pay for the change!)!! Surprisingly, they are quite popular! After all, who does not wish to be attractive and popular—male or female?

It’s obvious that you really don’t need much (if any) training to develop a great personality. Just take a good look at yourself and ask yourself, “Who knows ME better than MYSELF?” So, look within yourself! There is a whole lot of internal wealth inside that is just waiting to be brought to the surface! Your potentialities for self-growth have always existed; it is just that you have never been aware of them!

Oh yes, before you start any exercises on improving your personality, there are a few questions that you need to ask yourself. Through an honest self-assessment, decide what it is about yourself that you wish to change. Observe how others act and behave—how do they talk?—what is it that you would like to emulate and what is it that you would wish to avoid?

Move towards self-growth and personality development:

(1) Always be POSITIVE!

Do you enjoy being around people who keep moaning and groaning about life all the time? No, you don’t! Well, how do you expect people to put up with your grumblings then? A cheerful countenance will bring smiles even on the faces of strangers! Yes, given the things that are happening around us today and all the evils that exist, this is an extremely difficult task to do. But you have got to try. The minute you ooze self-confidence, your back gets straighter and you walk taller! There is a spring in your walk, you attack even the most unpleasant tasks with cheer and fortitude, and you stand out in the crowd! To top it all, a positive mentality is infectious—it spreads! (2) Do not be a conversation hogger!

Don’t get so overwhelmed by your “self-growth” to such an extent that you talk and talk about all that is happening in your life. Listen more and talk less! Also, do not look down on people who cannot be like you. Take the time to put yourself in their shoes and figure out why they are the way they are. Remember, people always welcome a helping hand when in trouble. And this is the best way to change their negative outlook also.

(3) Control your runaway tongue!

Our tongues make us what we are! Yes, it is impossible to be sugary sweet all the time! But try to be polite as much as possible even when the other person is trying his/her best to annoy you. This is one more step towards self-growth! Try to judge others on the brighter side of their characters, and you will be fine.

(4) Be courageous always!

No difficult situation should faze you! Treat every challenge as healthy competition. After all, there is no gain without pain! And it is so on your journey towards healthy self-growth! And stay away from deception and lies as much as you can.

(5) Break away from old and unwanted habits!

This is tough! Good habits are our best friends, while bad habits, unwanted enemies! Yet, how difficult these enemies are to get rid of! If you think I am joking, just ask a person who has tried to give up smoking or a person who has promised to indulge in weight-loss exercises!

(6) Make a habit of serving others.

There is a sense of satisfaction and inner peace in serving others. Plus, you learn so much by coming in contact with a diverse section of society. So, do you think you can spare some time for the less fortunate? Social service is like giving back something of yourself to that society which has always looked after you.

(7) Bring forth your creativity.

It is a proven fact that each and every one of us has creative powers. Take up a hobby, for instance, something which you never thought you could do. What a wonderful feeling of achievement when you have done something different for a change. The same creative skills can also be applied to mundane office tasks to take away from the daily routine. There are always, always new ways of doing things!

(8) Do not waste time!

Time is a precious commodity. So use it wisely! Sadly, few people value it. Life is short, so don’t just sit there thinking—get down to doing all the things that you wish to. Procrastination is an enemy that can eat you away from within, leaving a very dissatisfied individual behind.
